Employees and patients of Crozer- Chester Medical System and Taylor Hospital both in Delaware County, PA, are breathing a sigh of relief.
The hospitals were slated to close as soon as March 14th as parent company, Prospect Medical Holdings Inc., maintained in court proceedings that there wasn't enough money to remain open past this Friday. An agreement was reached late Sunday to keep the facilities open for the immediate future while a long-term plan is being worked on.
The Attorney General stated the following in light of the news:
“I thank all parties for their good faith negotiations and sacrifices made to make this happen. This work was done on behalf of the thousands of people and families who depend on Crozer Health System for essential services — and the many hardworking professionals who provide that care."
Prospect, a California based for-profit company, purchased Crozer in 2016 and filed for bankruptcy in January of this year. Crozer was placed in a receivership while state and local officials attempted to find solutions for it to remain open. In 2024, the Attorney General's Office sued Prospect Holdings citing mismanagement and neglect of Crozer Health System.
More details about the future of these hospitals will be made available in the coming weeks.
